Path in the woods towards online therapy for mental health in North Carolina

How Online Counseling Helps:

I specialize in anxiety treatment & LGBTQ+ affirming therapy. Clients seek me out because they don’t want to:

  • Feel anxious, overwhelmed, and controlled by anxiety

  • Life their lives trying to please others

  • Feel so scared their partner is going to leave all the time

  • Be so up in their head and unable to sleep

  • Come out of the closet

  • Feel shamed for their queer identity.

All of these are great reasons to start online therapy. My clients keep coming to therapy because they feel heard, understood, and see tangible change in their lives. We accomplish this by connecting with their values and bodies using evidence-based therapy, so they can feel different, and I want to help you do the same for yourself.

How Teletherapy Services Work

Virtual mental health care looks similar to in-person sessions in many ways. The biggest difference is the logistics of the online therapy platforms. You will get email and text reminders before the teletherapy session with a link to the online therapy “room.” The link always stays the same so you can easily put this only your calendar. Some clients also bookmark it for easy access, no matter what you will stick get an email with the link.

Once you click on it you will be taken to a digital “waiting room” on the therapy platform. You put in your name and pronouns if you desire and then wait until the start of your video conferencing appointment.

Katie will start the appointment and you will get popped into the online therapy room. Much research shows online therapy and is as effective as in person. Some clients actually find it more helpful if they have difficulty opening up because it feels less scary than having a person in the room staring at you.

If you have deeply relational trauma or feel nervous around mental health professionals working with an online therapist may help mitigate that.

  • My approach is unique in that our work will primarily focus on body-based (somatic), evidence-informed therapies. These are approaches to therapy that involve mind-body connection and have been validated by scientific research. Results cannot be guaranteed, and I will do my best to support you in meeting your goals.

  • I work with individual only, not couples. I see clients 16-40 years old.

For all other insurances, you may have out-of-network benefits, which means that they will support the cost of our services.

I have partnered with Thrizer, a payment application that handles this process automatically for you so you can pay only what you truly owe for our sessions. Additionally, I can provide superbills and accept HSA/FSA cards.

  • If you have Aetna, I am an in-network provider so the cost will depend on your insurance plan. We will verify your insurance before our first session.

If you have any other insurance or want to self-pay (also called private pay), the cost of sessions are $178 for a 53-minute session. I accept HSA/FSA cards and take out of network benefits, which means that insurance will support the cost of our services.

We will first check to confirm you have out-of-network benefits before session. If so, I will use Thrizer so that you are only charged your co-payment for the appointment. I’m happy to discuss this in further detail during a free consultation call or via email.
